用法:
1 (a) [Tn, Tn.p, Cn.a] press on (sth) from opposite sides or all sides 挤, 榨, 捏, 向内收紧(某物):
squeeze a sponge, a tube of toothpaste 挤海绵、 牙膏 *
squeeze sb's hand, eg as a sign of affection, sympathy, etc 握著某人的手捏一捏(如表示爱意、 同情等) *
a doll that squeaks when you squeeze it 一捏会叫的玩具娃娃 *
squeeze the dish-cloth out 把洗碗布挤乾 *
squeeze a lemon dry 把柠檬榨乾 *
(fig 比喻) a company squeezed by (ie under financial pressure because of) reduced sales 因销售量下降而处境困难的公司.
(b) [Tn.pr] ~ sth into sth change the shape, size, etc of sth into that specified by doing this 将某物挤成某形状、 大小等:
squeeze paste into a ball 把面团捏成球形.

squeeze the water out (of the cloth) 把(那块布中的)水挤出 *
(fig 比喻) squeezed out of the job market by younger men 被年轻人挤出了就业市场 *

3 [Ipr, Ip, Tn.pr, Tn.p] ~ (sb/sth) into, through, etc sth; ~ (sb/sth) through, in, past, etc force (oneself/sb/sth) into, through, etc a narrow gap or restricted space (使某人[某物])挤入, 挤过:
squeeze through a gap in the hedge/through a crowd 由树篱的缺口挤过去[从人丛中挤过去] *
squeeze (one's way) onto a crowded bus 挤上拥挤的公共汽车 *
There were already four people in the lift, but he managed to squeeze in. 电梯里已经有四个人了, 但他还是挤进去了. *
Can you squeeze past/by? 你能挤过去吗? *
She squeezed as many books onto the shelf as she could. 她把书架塞得不能再满了. *

4 (phr v) squeeze sth out of sb get sth from sb by applying pressure (eg threats of violence, force, harsh laws) 向某人榨取某事物; 勒索; 敲诈:

squeeze a promise out of sb 逼某人作出保证. squeeze (sb) up (against sb/sth) (cause sb to) press tightly and uncomfortably (against another person or thing); move closer together (使某人)(跟他人或某物)挤在一起; 贴近:
There'll be enough room if we all squeeze up a bit. 咱们大家挤一挤就够地方了. *

(b) affectionate hug or clasp 亲切的拥抱或握手:
a hug and a squeeze 亲热的拥抱 *

用法:
3 [sing] state of being squeezed, as when many people or things are pressed tightly together 拥挤; 挤压:

用法:
6 (idm 习语) put the squeeze on sb (to do sth) (infml) put pressure on sb to act in a particular way 对某人施加压力(以迫使其做某事). a tight squeeze => tight.
