Our School
HISTORY SS. Cyril and Methodius School, a
cultural and spiritual force in the parish community, has developed from a unit of four
classrooms to a physical plant of sixteen classrooms, a library, and a science room,
provided with equipment for all phases of education. The progress of the school is
directly attributed to the cooperation among the priests, the faculty, and the members of
the parish which has existed since its inception.

Sisters of the Holy Ghost arriving here in September, 1954, found an eager prospective student body of six hundred children and only eight classrooms in which to receive them. Due to the shortage of teachers and classroom space, it was necessary to schedule double sessions and the staff found itself woefully short of materials and equipment. Classes were begun with a staff of four Sisters and three lay teachers working with Sister Zita, the first principal. Mrs. O. J. Jaloway was the first president of the hastily organized P.T.O., which set to work immediately with the Men's Club and other parish organizations to provide the school with the needed materials and equipment. Two more Sisters joined the faculty the following year and three additional classrooms relieved the overcrowded classes.

The Sixties saw the number of classrooms raised to sixteen and the Library and Science
Room were ready for use in 1966. The increase in enrollment necessitated enlarging
the teaching staff with additional lay teachers and a librarian joining the staff that
year.
The consolidation of all parochial seventh and eighth grade class units into two junior high schools made SS. Cyril and Methodius a central elementary school for several parishes in September, 1969.

At the present time, (April, 1998) SS. Cyril and Methodius School serves students in Kinder Three through Fifth grade. We follow a year-round calendar with school beginning in August and ending in June each year. The school offers a strong academic curriculum with Religion and service projects emphasized. Computer science, library research and a fine arts program is offered. We also hold membership in the Inter-Parochial Sports League and offer after-school care and an intercessory program. We are accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department and hold membership in the National Catholic Education Association. The school continues to work closely with the parish community.
