1a. 这两个形容词的区别仅仅在于：前者多半作表语使用，有时也可用作定语；后者则只能作定语使用，不作表语使用。（注：两者都是动词 sink 的过去分词形式。）
例如：
What the crew in fact found was a ship which had been sunk many years before. 其实，船员们找到的是一艘沉没多年的船只。
I he sunken ship the captain was trying to find had carried a precious cargo of gold bullion. 船主想要寻找的那艘船，曾载过价值连城的金锭。
比较：
It is a sunk ship. 这是一艘快将沉没的船。（尚未沉没）
It is a sunken ship. 这是一艘沉没了的船。（已经沉没）
1b. 后者又可以用作喻义，而前者则不能这样使用。
例如：
Jenny has sunken eyes. 詹尼有一双深凹的眼睛。
It is a sunken ground. 这是一处凹地。
