spend ： take （ up ）－ 780
1a. 作“花费时间”讲，这两个动词是同义，但不能通用：前者总是指自己的时间，而后者则多半指对方的时间。
例如：
He's spent his life writing this book. 他花了毕生的时间在写这本书。
How do you spend your summer vacation? 你想要怎样度过暑假？
比较：
I have spent much of my time in learning English. 我花了许多时间学英语。
I am sorry for having taken （ up ） so much of your time. 对不起，花费你这么多时间。
1b. 在用法上，两者也不一样：前者在宾语之后要搭用
动名词短语，而后者则要搭用不定式短语。
比较：
He spent days planning the study he would have for himself. 他花了几天工夫在计划自己在学习方面的安排。
（ = He spent days in planning the study …）
He took days to plan the study he would have for himself. 他花了好几天工夫在计划自己在学习方面的安排。（ to plan the study …是用作状语）
